Special Event July 31, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.Open House for Carolyn Rose's new bookHemlock Lake
Join us on Saturday, July 31st, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. as Carolyn Rose celebrates the publication of her new novel, Hemlock Lake, with an open house here at Cover to Cover Books. Carolyn will be on hand to sign books and chat about her Hemlock Lake journey. Drop in any time. From the book's press release: The mystery, set in the Catskill Mountains, involves betrayal, revenge, love, loss, and redemption, set against the search for an arsonist and killer in a remote community. Rose, who founded the Vancouver Writers' Mixers in 2006 and teaches a novel-writing boot camp through Clark College Continuing Education, will talk about the decision to write a book far different from the humorous mysteries, such as The Big Grabowski, that she's penned in the past with her husband Mike Nettleton and as solo projects. She'll also discuss the book's journey to publication, and serve up Hemlock Lake cake to those who stop by.
MONTHLY WRITERS' MIXERS
Writers' Mixers happen the first Saturday of each month, at 5PM. The events are free and do not require a reservation or RSVP. Light refreshments served.

Diane Cammer: Clarion-style
Reviews
Our next writers' mixer is Saturday, June 5, 5:-6:30 pm! Come meet and greet other Northwest writers, network, and have a good time! Diane Cammer, one of Cover to Cover Books' regulars at the mixers and our monthly Poetry Open Microphone, will tackle the daunting task of teaching us how to deliver constructive critiques, Clarion-style. In the Clarion method, the writers bring in a page of their work, about 250 words, read the page aloud, and then receive constructive criticism on the spot. We've already got a couple of eager volunteers lined up to read to break the ice, and we'll sign up others at the mixer. So: if you're interested in receiving a helpful reaction to your fiction, bring a page of your work and be prepared to read aloud to the group. We'll do as many critiques as we have time for in our session.
June's mixer will be our last mixer before the summer hiatus. We'll be back the first Saturday in October with more fabulous guest speakers! POETRY OPEN MICROPHONESEvery second Thursday after closing time, come on out to the Poetry Open Microphone, hosted by Chris Luna. Featured poets change each month, but there's always an open microphone for local poets. Come meet, greet, read and listen! Always all ages, always uncensored, always free admission.
